I'm going to marry the love of my life on August 6th next year.

Got cold feet with her a few years ago and we split up for a while.

It's not exactly been plain sailing all the way since then, and we've both acted like asses with each other a lot.

I guess I'm trying to say that sometimes it's easier just to give up on something rather than see it through, but when you both come out the other end you're part of something even more special.
